Think Deathmatch mode, CSGO/TF2, or gamemodes like TTT or Murder. These are maps meant to be played over and over again. Detailing only comes after most of the gameplay has refined. I start with a very quick blockout then playtest the map. Examples include Half-Life: Alyx maps, Left 4 Dead, CS:GO co-op missions, or gamemodes like zombie escape. This can be single maps or a group of continuous levels. Generally, levels fall under 3 main categories. I make the whole map start to finish, including any custom materials, sounds, or entities.
